Ford F-150 vanity license plate inspired by “Harrier” bird species

Vanity license plates often give us a slight invitation to the inspiration and passions of the drivers who own them. Photographer Ron Dudley recent ordered his personalized license plate when he purchased his new Ford F-150 which appropriately reads “HARRIER.”

Ron states

Whenever I’m forced to choose a favorite avian subject (a choice I don’t like to make) I typically choose this species.  They’re magnificent aerial athletes, beautiful, extremely challenging photographic subjects and they carry that “raptor mystique”.

Since its rare to get a good Northern Harrier shot outside of the winter, Ron humbly describes his first day taking pictures with his new Ford F-150 custom license plate and capturing a juvenile Norther Harrier as “fitting.” I call it divine!

Check out Ron Dudley’s website and his wonderful work behind a camera. He also links us to another bird lover named Rich Ditch whose collection of bird related vanity license plates was featured in March 1988 issue of Audubon magazine titled “A license to Bird.”

Vanity License Plate reads ARTGAL

Vanity License Plate ARTGAL

Vanity license plates have been “taken to a new level”, according to a beautifully written post by Patricia Harris on Boston.com. She gave brief recap of her recent adventure in New Hampshire and the tales of the vanity license plates she spotted. She found some interesting ones to say the least. We just wish should could have take more pics of the vanity license plates !

The road to literacy  by Patricia Harris

We spent much of the last week driving around New Hampshire doing research for a new Food Lovers’ guidebook. And we have to say that our neighbors to the north have raised the art of the vanity license plate to a new level. Who knew that a 6” by 12” piece of metal could be such a vehicle (so to speak) for self expression? Just ask ARTGAL, SHOELVR, and IPOD-DJ.

Perhaps the cleverest plate we saw was the driver’s education car (NERVOUS), while the most climate-conscious were no doubt ECOCAR (on a blue Prius) and CUTCO2. Yet perhaps our personal favorites were the white Nissan Maxima (GR8GFT) and the smoking hot little red convertible (FUNFNFN).

One thing’s for sure—you don’t have to check your registration to remember your license tag when your plate reads MMRYKPR.

Maybach vanity license plate spotted in Cali reads MGMPURR

maybach vanity license plate MGMPURRMaybach Vanity License Plate reads MGMPURR

Maybach vanity license plate sightings happen few and far in between. This ever elusive Maybach was spotted by a reader of the popular auto website Jalopnik.com after Kanye and Jay-Z.

When platenuts.com brings in enough revenue for me to go and buy a Maybach, you better believe my Maybach vanity license plate will abbreviate my platenuts.com moniker Head Nut In Charge and read “HNIC.” Sounds so soulful don’t you agree!

BMW 750 Vanity License Plates (750Li) – “10til8″

BMW vanity license plates have always been some of my favorite vanity license plates. In my experience and love for vanity license plates, Bimmer owners continue to be some of the most clever people ever when it comes to personalized or vanity license plates. This one is no exception.

This being a BMW 750Li makes it “10til8″ or ten minutes until eight on a clock. For me, the reference to the model number and time was popularized by a few witty rappers which decided to reference the older 745 BMW as a “quarter to eight.”   I know Camron did it and so did Bow Wow but there were a few others who’s rap monikers and songs escape me at the moment. Feel free to let me know if you can think of any more who have used it.

This trend has also spilled over to a few other cars too. I’ve seen the sexy 350z vanity license plate reading “10til4.”

So what are your thoughts on these witty BMW vanity license plates? Thumbs up or down?
