The Renewed Mind is the Key

Okay Okay Okay…so every now and then I get sent a video that is worth breaking up the pattern of vanity license plates and boy did I get one.  So don’t get me wrong, I am a Christian, and I get what they are trying to do here-connect with the younger audience with a hip flair.  Let’s just say hip flair descibes it best.  I gotta give it to home boy, the lord filled his spirit becuse in the middle of the video he breaks it down.

What you got on that Freezy?

IL BETU won’t believe…

slrilbetu.JPGwhy this customized license plate takes me off the beaten path and delves into an E! True Hollywood Story. I found my first job in L.A. as a valet thanks to good ol’ craigslist. “See the stars and park their cars.” Who wouldn’t want this job? It was a Friday night around 10 ish (boy do I hate that), and an Navy Blue SLR pulls up driven by none other than a certain Billion dollar hotel heiress. That alone would be enough of an “L.A. moment,” but wait it gets juicier. This young lady turns on the interior light to reveal she was toking a joint. Then as a pro would handle the situation she performs one last make up check exits the vehicle, chucks the roach and power walks to the festivities (which had an even more abundant supply of Mary Jane and various other Narcotics). The SLR will forever be synonymous with a certain hotel chain in my mind. Any vehicles with personalized license plates trigger a memory of a special someone for you?

for the suburban commando…

bttlwgn.jpgThe customized license plate “BTTLWGN” says it all: “I am the Suburban Commando.  Get out of my way or we will have a problem.”  All this car needs is a baby on board sticker while doing 90 in the carpool lane.  What would possess anyone to get such an aggressive vanity license plate?  A person that knows the world is changing.  We are now forced to stuff 48 hours in to 24.  As that Mom or Dad casually strolls to their kid carrier, their plate is a non verbal reminder of what is at stake:  Drop kids off at school, pick up dry cleaning, oil change, mani/pedi (guys too dammit!), groceries, pick kids up from school, soccer practice/piano lessons etc., and make it home so dinner will be ready by 7pm.  This plate represents preservtion of life for this family.  What would your urban warfare plate read?

Go Speed Racer Go!

McDonalds Speed RacerEver since the dawn of  Racer X many have followed Speed Racer.  It is no surprise that McDonalds, the largest fast food restaurant, teamed with the new motion picture to promote the movie.  I stumbled on to the “5 Speed 5″ custom license plate as I scanned the room just before sitting down to enjoy my meal. Fortunately the cutie who received the toy was more concerned with playing in the play room rather than eating.  After a quick explanation to Mom, I was able to snap a quick picture of the promo.  The Wachowski Brothers who are the directors of this movie have received much criticism as a result of the PG rating it received, rather than the PG-13 rating many parent advocacy groups had pushed for.  Reasonings of the parents revolve around many moral and other issues such as car racing, cheating, unscrupulous business tycoons, “fixed” sports events, plastic surgery, having lost a loved one in a car race, and the list goes on.  I would argue that, yes, we as parents should be in charge of instilling morals and values.  I do believe that entertainment like this causes children to think, and furthermore, encourages both children and parents to discuss these matters as a whole.  Right and wrong should not simply rest on the fact that your child went to see a movie that contains controversial topics.  A ”stick-your-head-in-the-sand” attitude and lack of open communication would be to not allow your child to watch the film…just don’t be surprised when little Stevie gets pulled over doing 45 over the speed limit when he is 16 and in his “rebellious stage”.
