Platenuts.com reader, Jake, submitted his vanity license plate a looooooooooooooong time ago.  As I confessed in several posts before, I have this disease called procrastination and it has advanced to Stage 3.  Luckily, my meds are helping and I’m getting back into a rhythm here.

“Maybe it’s time to slow down and smell the roses…er,  I mean Poppies!” emailed Jake.  I’m curious, how many times do you get pulled over and issued speeding tickets becuase of this vanity license plate?  If I was a asshole cop and was having a bad day, I’d probably pull you over just becuase.  Well, maybe I’d let you go becuase you were in a 350z.

When I saw this customized license plate, I couldn’t help but flashback to Dave Chappelle’s: “Killing Them Softly.” Mr. Chappelle’s stand up performance is timeless, and has to go down as one of the greatest nights for a comedian:  The pacing, his relaxed delivery, and timely callbacks firmly cemented Mr. Chappelle as one of the greats.  As I continued to gaze at the personalized license plate, The “Dave Chappelle walked away from $50 million dollars” neon signed flashed before my eyes.  Does he regret that move?  Looking back I thought of a misstep of my own:  I regret not picking a more hardcore job during my four year Army career.  Telling the ladies “I was an Personnel Information Systems Management Specialist,” cannot compete with “I blow ish up.”  What moment do you wish you could have back?

I still feel strongly that Z owners, regardless of which generation Z, are some of the most creative, passionate, and coolest vanity license plate owners around.  Check here for my proof. For those of you that don’t know or are new to the site, I LOVE Z’s.  In fact, I used to own a 1985 Nissan 300zx (n/a) and now currently own a 2005 350z.

One recent afternoon, I approached a man at a gas station to compliment him on his immaculate ’85 300zx.  The car was beautiful and meticulously cared for inside and out.  We ended up doing a bit of a man dance, talking about everything from the size turbo on the car to a full tour of the interior and even the engine of the 300zx. He even let me here the mystery woman’s voice that politely tells you when your door is open or fuel level is low.  She used to tell me my fuel level was low daily.  Hey- I was an intern in college.  Quickly, I forgot my wife was inside of our car waiting for me but I was a bit sidetracked.

When I saw this custom license plate on his 300zx I had to ask, why PEZZZ?  It was almost as if he was waiting for me to ask why he had this plate.  Little did I know I was opening up a conversation that would keep me talking in the May Arizona heat for close to 15 minutes. (Wife still patiently waiting in the car, love you babe!)He began to tell me a story of how “he was known.”  Our friend here told me that his claim to fame was everyone called him the “Pez Man” in the casinos.  When he sits down at the Baccarat tables he is always known to have a Pez dispenser with ample Pez to distribute to onlookers and dealers for good luck.  He told me it got to the point where he couldn’t sit down at a table with out locals and dealers asking for their morsel of sugary heaven.  He also went on to tell me about the fact he never gambles with less than $10,000 and he is close to being a local casino celebrity due to his status as the “Pez Man.“  It works for him.  It’s his schtik.He went into the glove compartment and pulled out a magnetic monkey (WTF?) and stuck it to the vanity license plate.  By this time, I felt I have talked a bit too long and needed to get moving since all of this took place while my wife was patiently waiting.  My only regret was not asking this guy the point of pulling out the monkey and placing it on there for the picture.  I’m sure it had some relevance but I have to admit it was kinda weird.  So thanks for letting me tell your story and if you’re ever gambling and happen to see the “Pez Man” send him our best!

ZEUL8R: What is it about the letter “Z” that just makes custom 350z plates so damn cool?  It’s hard to mess up a Z plate if you play off the letter like this one did.  Another respectable example of a great custom license plate.
